2026-08-07 – Lies

When you think about it, writing is very similar to lying.

You make stuff up, trying to get it to be cohesive, not too unbelievable, yet interesting enough to capture your audience’s attention.

It’s a miracle that there’s not droves of writers going into politics, where talking out of your arse and making shit up on the spot seem to be pretty much eighty-plus percent of the job.

Obviously I don’t count politicians who “write” a book during or after their term, because the majority of those hire ghostwriters and then pretend they did it all by themselves.
See, lying again.

A good writer can craft a story, or even a world, that the reader can believe and lose themselves in.
A politician will craft a lie about the world, hoping you’ll believe them.

The end result for both does tend to be very much the same: making money by lying to whom are essentially your customers.

If I had to guess, I’d say the biggest difference between paying for lies, is that with a writer you’ll at least have a book you can enjoy, while the average politician will grant you nothing but an existential crisis and higher taxes.

This opinion is exactly why I don’t write for a newspaper, seeing how most of those are owned by the very rich, who in turn bribe the politicians to lie to us, to get more of our money.

I’ll end this rant here, for now, before it turns into a manifesto or manuscript, and I get put on some sort of watchlist.
